Saga Bandsins: Angist began when Gyða (Hostile/Chthonic) and Edda (Elegy/Sein/F.R.O.G), united by shared interest in death metal, sat down and started playing guitar together. The riffs started to pile up and after a few months a mutual friend, Gunni Svenn (Helshare/Bastard/Moldun), was recruited as a drummer.

While putting the songs together they continued to search for a vocalist and bass player. After trying out few vocalists it was decided that Edda would do the vocals herself as well as playing guitar and Gyða would handle lead guitar. Edda’s bone crushing growls fitted the music perfectly and later her brother, Halli (Elegy/Chaos Id), joined as a bass player.

With a complete line-up they were prepared to record a demo but Gunni decided to leave the band to concentrate on his main project Moldun. Without a drummer, Gyða and Edda, kept writing music while searching for the right person to take over drumming duties.

After few months of playing without a drummer they finally found the perfect replacement. Hafþór, who used to play in Icelandic blackmetal band Svartidauði, was the right man for the job and late 2009 the Angist line-up was completed.
The foursome could now focus on writing new material, staying true to the original idea of old-school death metal and first and foremost, keeping the songs grooving.

Different elements of metal, like thrash and black metal came into the mix with the Angist members all coming from different music styles. With the combination of dark lyrics themed with tales of human misery, destructive behavior and overall degeneration of humanity, the sound of the band was forged.
